What To Expect After VNUS Closure Procedure
The VNUS ClosureFast™ procedure to treat varicose veins and other venous reflux diseases is a minimally invasive procedure. The recovery time is relatively miniscule post-procedure and many patients are given permission to return to normal activities immediately (while avoiding strenuous exercise for at least one week). Although some pain and discomfort may still occur, it is typically resolved completely within 1-2 weeks after the VNUS Closure has taken place. Pain medication is rarely prescribed as patients typically manage their pain by taking 200mg of Ibuprofen every 6-8 hours. In the event of severe pain or discomfort, please contact our office for further assistance.
Walking, jogging and light running inside or on the treadmill is acceptable immediately following the procedure. However, the patient must keep in mind that their veins are still healing and will need to avoid vigorous activities like weightlifting (especially in the lower extremities) and excessive running.
If you have any questions regarding activity levels post-procedure, contact Dr. Nahhas and Dr. Chattahi at Venocure and we can advise you based on your specific needs.
VNUS Closure Procedure Results
The VNUS ClosureFast™ procedure has been proven to be an effective procedure to resolve varicose veins. (See VNUS ClosureFast™)
As one of the most popular varicose vein treatments at Venocure—studies, as well as our patients, continue to prove the effectiveness of this treatment. According to vascularnews.com “Five-Year VNUS Closure Results Presented at AVF,” several presentations were given including a five-year follow-up from a clinical registry of the procedure. The doctor who presented the results was Dr. Robert Merchant. He demonstrated that 84% of the 117 limbs that were treated by VNUS Closure, were clear of any sign of the venous reflux. These results are in-line with a similar four-year study that showed 86% of 98 limbs were free of venous reflux causing varicose veins.
In a randomised trial by Dr. L. Stoetter in Germany, scientists compared Closure procedure, vein stripping, and cryo-stripping. The patients that had undergone the Closure procedure reported they experienced less pain and discomfort one week after treatment. Additionally, Closure patients claimed to be highly satisfied both cosmetically and on a pain/discomfort basis for more than 12 months following the procedure.
Results will vary from every client and are not guaranteed.
